PATHWAY GROOMING REPORT
Final Report: Grooming on the Cadillac Pathway Cross
Country Ski Trail was a difficult proposition this winter. A lack of snow and several freeze/thaw cycles meant
that there were few opportunities to properly groom the trail.
The grooming crew wants to thank skiers for their cooperation and understanding
during this odd winter. We would point out that the grooming effort is a totally volunteer operation. The
snowmobile we use is a 1991 Polaris and the tracking sled weighs 240 pounds, a combination that is less than
perfect in heavy, wet snow. We do our best, but sometimes conditions dictate what we can and cannot do. We
also ski the trail regularly ourselves, so we know first hand what ski conditions exist.
Our thanks, also, to Dave Mackey and his CTC crew for their
assistance with the snowmobile and equipment. Also thanks to the DNR for their assistance in removing fallen
trees and other heavy maintenance projects.
The good news is that all the pieces are now in place for grooming to resume as soon as
the snow flies for the 2012-2013 cross country ski season.

Jerry, Roger, and Jim
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP
Please observe the signs posted on the trail. No dogs, snowshoes, or walking on the groomed ski
trail -- please!
Other ways that you can do to help the Pathway grooming effort.
1. The snowmobile being used is a 1991 Polaris. It would be great if you or someone you know would
find a way to donate a newer (or backup) snowmobile to the effort. The donation could be made to the
Wexford-Missaukee ISD and the amount of the donation could be used as a chartitable deduction on a tax return.
2. SIGNS: We could use some signs, so if you're a woodworker and would like to make and donate some
signs it would be very helpful. We need "Cadillac Pathway XC Ski Trail" signs for both trailheads. We can also use
multiple copies of: "Please, no dogs, snowshoeing, or hiking on the groomed ski trail."

IN THE NEWS
PASSPORT NOW REQUIRED TO PARK AT PATHWAYS In a policy that may interest cross country
skiers, the Michigan DNR will require a Recreation Passport on all vehicles parking in the lots at non-motorized
pathways. This policy would include the Cadillac Pathway. Read the DNR press release.
